About Guide Dogs SA/NT

For more than 65 years, Guide Dogs SA/NT has been supporting people living with low vision, blindness and other specialised needs in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

From Adelaide to Darwin, and everywhere in between, our team cares and supports our clients and their families by providing guide dogs and assistance dogs, allied health, funding assistance, and of course, our iconic Guide Dogs.

It takes a significant amount of time, expertise and more than $50,000 to breed, raise and train our dogs, but their impact is priceless.

By working with our clients, their families, carers and medical professionals, Guide Dogs SA/NT fights to ensure everyone in our community can safely, confidently, and independently live the life they want to live.

The journey to become a Guide Dog

Before our puppies can become life-changing companions, they undergo extensive training with our expert staff which takes more than two years and costs over $50,000. Your support on 24 April, Guide Dogs Day, will mean we’ll be able to make a priceless impact on other lives by training more Guide Dogs.

International Guide Dog Day

Wednesday 24 April is International Guide Dog Day, a day to celebrate the important role guide and assistance dogs play in supporting people around the world. On that day, we’re inviting everyone to dig deep and donate to help us train more life-changing Guide Dogs.

“With Floyd, we can go everywhere we need and do anything we want.”

“My son, Leo has inherited my vision impairment. Having Floyd in our lives allows him to grow up with the knowledge that his future is not limited because of his condition.”

“Guide Dogs has totally changed our lives.”

“There’s no price on what a difference Ringer makes to us. It’s just life-changing. We’re so thrilled to have Ringer as part of our family, to help us do our best for Billy every day. Because of Ringer, Billy has so much more independence and motivation. We’re getting out every day to exercise and building up Billy’s independence to cross the road safely.”

- Tania, mother of Billy, Guide Dogs SA/NT client

“Having Rocket has made an enormous difference to my life.”

“I wouldn’t leave the house nearly as much. If I didn’t have Rocket, I would have chosen to study online at home and would miss out on so much. He’s so affectionate. He leans on me and provides reassurance. He’s also the perfect match for me as we’re both very fast walkers!”
